San Juan Diego Catholic High School is reshaping education in Austin, Texas. Since the school was founded, our school has continued to grow and develop into a community of dedicated teachers and staff who, along with our many corporate work-study partners and volunteers, provide our unique educational experience to capable, motivated and interested young people. We understand that transformative education is not limited to the classroom and is an investment in our future leaders, the city and all its people.
We serve mainly inner city; minority, title-one students and we do not turn away based on an inability to pay tuition. 23% of our families qualify for title-one benefits and many families make just above the qualification wage. 75% of our students currently receive tuition assistance.
Since 2002, SJDCHS has provided students with a rigorous college-preparatory education through a thriving and economically sustainable educational model - the Corporate Internship Program (CIP). More than 25 civically engaged businesses of all sizes and industries throughout Austin hire our talented students who serve as reliable, productive and cost-effective employees. The corporate partners we collaborate with supplement half the tuition for the students that work for them throughout the school year.
The CIP provides hands-on experience in the workplace, instills strong work ethics in our students and gives students the confidence to succeed. First students are required to attend a series of training sessions at SJDCHS to help set them up for success in the workplace as well as, in life. To help cultivate a supportive learning experience, each student receives a corporate mentor and teacher mentor. Along with this, we believe community service teaches students to be caring individuals who will continue to respond to the needs of society. Students are required to give eighty hours of service to the disadvantaged and under-served communities of Austin. In conjunction with participation in CIP and community service, our rigorous academic curricula creates a well-rounded and caring individual who will be successful post high school and give back to the communities in which they work and live.
